Krasi - Κράσι

Το Κράσι βρίσκεται στο νομό Ηρακλείου και 46,3 χλμ από την πόλη του Ηρακλείου σε υψόμετρο 600μ. Το χωριό είναι γνωστό για την ‘’Μεγάλη Βρύση’’, πηγή με άφθονα νερά όπου αρδεύει μεγάλη περιοχή με καρποφόρα δένδρα. 

Στην περίοδο της Τουρκοκρατίας δεν κατοικήθηκε από Τούρκους. Λέγεται ότι στο Κράσι παραθέριζε ο Ν. Καζαντζάκης και αυτό διαφαίνεται στα έργα του όπως το ‘’Καπετάν Μιχάλης’’ με σκηνές κάτω από τον μεγάλο πλάτανο.   Το 1890 κατασκευάστηκαν πέτρινες βρύσες εντός του χωριού με δαπάνες της κοινότητας και με μάστορες από το Μοχό. 

                         

Κοντά στη πηγή βρίσκεται και ο πελώριος πλάτανος με περιφέρεια κορμού 24μ. που λέγεται ότι είναι μεταξύ 1800 – 2000 ετών. Τους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες η πλατεία στην οποία βρίσκεται ο πλάτανος γίνεται τόπος συνάντησης και εκδηλώσεων. Στο Κράσι θα βρείτε ταβερνάκια αλλά και μικρά μαγαζάκια με ντόπια προϊόντα. 

                         

Krasi is located in the municipality of Heraklion, 46,3 km away from the city of Heraklion on the way to Agios Nikolaos , at an altitude of 600 metres. It is widely known for the ‘’Megali Vrisi’’ (‘’Big Spring’’), which is a spring with abundant water for irrigating a wide area around the village as well as many fruitful trees. 

During the Ottoman Empire in Crete, it is said that is was not inhabited by Turks. According to the tradition, Krasi was a place where Nikos Kazantzakis used to spend his holidays. This is also clear through his novels like in ‘’Captain Michalis’’, where he describes scenes near the big plane tree. In 1890 stone fountains were created in the centre of the village, under the financial support of the community and with many craftsmen from Mochos also helping.

Next to the fountains you will see the great plane tree whose trunk has a perimeter of 24 metres and it is said to be 1800-2000 years old. During the summer months, in the square where the plane tree is located, a lot of events and festivals are organized. In Krasi you will be able to find many traditional tavernas and some shops with local products too.
